After an accident, insurance companies may call you to ask you questions regarding the severity of the accident and your injuries. This call is often made before you’ve had the opportunity to speak with an attorney. An attorney is hired to protect your interests, guide and educate you about your rights and defend you from insurance company efforts to compensate you as little as possible.
It is important that you do not give these companies any statement without an attorney present, as it is your attorney’s responsibility to inform and protect you. Although you do have an obligation to report an accident as soon as it happens, you are permitted to give a statement with your own attorney present, regardless of what they may tell you.
